Gold Stocks Continue to Make Gains – PMV appears strong

With the gold stocks continuing to show strength it may be a good time to look at some junior positions in small cap gold stocks. If you are a penny stock investor I am sure you know that the gold mines are a dime a dozen, but also some of the most exciting stocks to own. Take Centerra Gold for example CG ,during the recession it traded as low as $1.27 per stock but is currently trading at $21.25. You don’t want to miss opportunities like that!.

PMI GOLD – PMV – PMI Gold made big news just a few weeks ago surging 60% in one day when they announced that they had found more gold than expected.

“TORONTO (SHfn) – PMI Gold (TSX: V.PMV, ) shares powered 60% higher to 93 cents on Friday after the gold junior announced a 270% increase in the NI 43-101 gold resources for its flagship Obotan Gold Project in Ghana, West Africa, to 1.22 million ounces Measured, 2.00 million ounces Indicated, and 1.29 million ounces Inferred. The company added that this paves the way for completion of a Pre-Feasibility Study on a gold mine development by the end of this year.”

Looking at their chart they have had a continuous rise (with a few spikes) over the last year.

B2GOLD – BTO – While not quite a penny stock this one is trading around $3.85 and looks like a great investment for anyone who reads charts. Check the trend for the last few years and it is NOTHING but up with this stock going from .35 to $3.85 in a couple of years.

shares of Kilo Goldmines (TSX: V.KGL,) rose 19% to 19 cents as the micro cap explorer reported results from four diamond drill holes and four trenches on its Canal Prospect, Somituri Project in Democratic Republic of Congo, which included 7.71 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 12.6 metres.

10 Ways Not To Pick Stocks

10. You’ve seen the ad on BNN. You know the ones we’re talking about. Those canned 30 second spots that has a clip of a mine, and a brief interview with the CEO saying good things. While they might be true, it’s up to you to figure that out. Don’t invest only on what you see in a paid advertisement.

9. e-Mail newsletter. They promise that *this* stock is going to be huge and go through the roof. Sounds pretty awesome. You only need to get out before everyone else does. That is not a game worth playing my friends. Again, good for ideas, but don’t trust them in the least, ignore them completely if you must.

8. The biggest gainer/loser of the day. One day run up in a penny stock could be a good thing, or an anomaly and the same goes on the down days. It might be a good way to find stocks that are moving, but find out what is behind the move before you decide it’s worthy of your money.

7. The tip your co-worker gave you. If your co-worker were a great stock picker he probably wouldn’t be your co-worker, he’d be your rich former co-worker.

6. String three letters together. Probably a bit absurd, but hey people have done crazier things. Typing three letters and seeing what turns up is just playing Russian roulette. It might be fun the time you make money, but there are more bullets than blanks in this gun.

5. Online forums. There are a lot of trolls and pumpers out there. You’re playing right into their hand if you blindly follow them.

4. Pure play commodities follower. You hear gold is going through the roof (or falling flat) so you invest in a junior gold mining company but are confused when you don’t see it matching the returns that gold is making. That’s because there’s a lot more going on there than you think. Time to brush up on your analysis skills. Price of gold is only one factor and depending on the company might not even be the biggest driver of value.

3. Your friend’s company. Your friend works for a bio tech firm that is publicly traded AND they’re curing cancer! Sweet, except your friend’s view of the company is generally not that of an investor but of an employee, and at worse it’s insider trading which is something you should avoid. So avoid this way of picking a stock.

2. Volumes. Volumes of shares traded can be deceiving and there’s a lot more I could say on the subject of volumes, but needless to say there is a lot more underlying to volume activity that you’ll need to know besides how actively it is traded. Namely, answer the “why” question.

1. Because I said so. First off, I would never ever tell you to go an buy a stock. I share with you some of the stocks I’m watching and track their performance, and even if you like them, it’s never a recommendation to buy. You will need to do your due diligence always.

This blog may be about penny stocks but penny stock investing is not right for every type of investor. That being said, it may be worth more consideration than they are usually given credit for. If youâ€™re new to the idea of penny stocks, they are basically stocks with low market capitalization that are mostly considered speculative (aka: big gambles). Thereâ€™s a lot of risk and a lot of reward. Penny stock are considered by some to be junk stocks and are full of cheats and liars. This is no more true than any stock trading out there today, and understanding the risks and opportunities will help in avoiding the junk and finding the gems.

Who should invest in penny stocks?
- If you have an iron stomach and are not afraid of risk.
- If youâ€™re young and have money youâ€™re willing to lose.
- If you have a substantial net worth that would permit you to take outsized risks as a result of an existing comfortable investment portfolio.
- People with the time and inclination to perform their own due diligence for investing in small cap companies.

How much should I invest in penny stocks?
The general rule for speculation is to keep it between 5% and 10% of your total portfolio value. This of course varies based on your own personal risk tolerance as well as the risk tolerance of your portfolio goal. No one would ever suggest that you put all of your savings into penny stock investing.

What penny stocks should I invest in?
There are certainly too many small cap stocks for one person to cover so itâ€™s nearly impossible to evaluate all of the options when considering penny stocks for investments. It is usually best to choose a specific industry and begin to recognize the patterns of success. From there on, you can apply these success patterns to up and coming companies trading as penny stocks and determine whether they meet the profile. This type of success pattern can be based either on fundamental or technical analysis. There are some sites like this one, that try to pick out a few penny stock picks that you may wish to consider performing due diligence on to see if it is a match for your own investment portfolio. That being said, no website will tell you to go out and buy any stock. The ideas are for information and entertainment only. This is where the risk comes in.

What are the risks?
In a word, everything. Penny stock investing is rife with risk. This is quite natural as the rewards can be quite substantial. There are many companies out there that are hired on by companies to promote their stocks as good investments. Often times these types of promotions will line the pockets of the company owners and leave the retail consumer penniless. That being said, these types of promotion can still be useful in making money if you know how to properly execute on them. But in general, have the expectation that you will lose 100% of the penny stock investment. If youâ€™re not comfortable with that idea then the risk may not be suited to your investing style.

The deal of the century happens every week
So if youâ€™ve made it this far in the post chances are youâ€™re thinking that you might want to take a look and putting a little money into penny stocks. Itâ€™s a great idea IMO. But itâ€™s best not to rush into any investment and penny stocks are no different. More than any other market you will hear of penny stocks exploding 120% in a day or 400% in the past month. Donâ€™t let these big numbers make you feel youâ€™re missing out. Focus yourself on the stocks youâ€™re interested in pursuing and once you have a plan then execute it.

Silver Quest Resources (SQI.V) is a mineral exploration company with properties based in Canada. They focus on gold and silver in their British Columbia and Yukon properties. While there has recently been a lot of discovery going on in the Yukon lately, there has been some positive developments in British Columbia as well. Read more about New Gold and Silver Quest

Their plan is to move their projects forward and looking to possible acquisition opportunities along the way. Their Davidson project in British Columbia is the New Gold JV they are involved in that has people interested these days. The volumes have been steady and over the past 6 months the stock has moved consistently higher.

Tech stock among the biggest movers

Today’s markets were shaky as they continue to figure out the value and fallout from the Greek bailout and the jobless situation in the US. There’s certainly a flight to safety going on right now that has seen money flow out of equities and into US $ and treasuries. This has also had an impact on the Canadian Dollar as well driving it ever closer to parity. The CAD/USD trade may only be a short term trend until the market figures out what is happening with America and Greece. When the appetite for risk returns it’s conceivable that we will see another rise in the Canadian dollar. Of course this isn’t a forex blog!

One of the small cap stocks we’ve followed this year continues to have market interest and is a big mover volume wise on the TSX-V. Intertainment (INT.V) had a significant run up at the beginning of the year and has since retreated to lower levels now trading in the $0.60 range. Their product Ortsbo is the one to watch.

Ortsbo announced that its world famous real time translation application is moving to cloud to support viral growth. Built on the Microsoft Windows Azure platform, Ortsboâ€™s new HTML alpha platform will allow the users to connect initially to Facebook, MSN and Google GTalk. Other social networks will be implemented quickly on the new platform, the company said in a press release. source: TMCnet

Penny Stock Profile: Lakeside Steel

Lakeside Steel is an oil and gas play however they are what many savvy investors look at are the ones making money regardless of the profitability of the companies trying to discover the stuff. They are in the oil and gas services industry. They are manufacturing pipe and mechanical tubing products. Currently they are based in Ontario but are looking at expanding south of the border. Setting up a sales office in Houston is one step in part of their strategy to expand in the oil and gas services industry in the US.

Here are two videos that you might find interesting and will give you a background into what their company is all about and give you a sense of the overall strategy they have to grow their company and returns to the shareholders.

The second video is a CEO clip from Lakeside Steel CEO Ron Bedard.

From a technical analysis perspective the company appears to have hit a double top which is traditionally seen as a reversal and indeed in this case they have come off the highs in the $0.60 range and are now trading at $0.44. There is considerable support at the $0.38 level, so that will be something to watch out for in the future as the price does continue downward.

Fundamentally speaking, if you’re a long term investor you will be eagerly anticipating the full production commencing this fall. For more information on the company visit their website.

The overall TSX edged higher this past week while gold is hanging out above $1500/oz and oil comfortably above the $110/barrel level. Not good for those people filling up at the pumps!
